Just bought a new (Cheap) HP all in one printer; installing the basic drivers (just the drivers, none of the junk) in Windows XP took about an hour :o ; installing the same printer in Kubuntu (including down-loading and building the latest driver source from HP) took 10 minutes :D

I just remembered why I hate Windows so much.

Awesome!

I hate those XP drivers because the secretly 'bundle' bloat code.

MrLinux, if you run Kubuntu and have an HP all-in-one printer, chances are that it was already supported out of the box. Most Linux distributions have the driver (hplip) already installed, else you could just go into the package manager (Adept, mayeb? I don't know what the Synaptic equivalent is called in KDE) and search for "hp printer" and install it in a minute or two.

I recently installed Vista on a new build for a friend, and it was relatively painless as far as Windows installs go. But it still was like pulling teeth compared to installed just about anything this side of Gentoo.
