removing virus protect

Just recently, my computer became infected with some spyware after my dad used it. Now, there is a really annoying icon located in the bottom right-hand corner of my screen. Periodically, it will flash a message saying "System Alert! System has detected a number of...". There are also 2 icons on the desktop that are links to the virusprotect.com (spyware site). They are designed to resemble the windows firewall icons. The first one is a blue shield with an exclamation point that's called "Online Security Guide". The second one is a green shield with a check mark and it's called "Security Troubleshooting". Has anyone had this type of spyware infection before? Does anyone know how to get rid of it?
