I just recently built a new computer and my local disk is labeled as H: . I want to change it to C: . I think it was labeled that way because i had an internal 3.5" (16 in 1) memory card reader (PCI) plugged into the computer when i first started it up (all brand new/ fresh windows install on new HD) So windows assigned c,d..... to these "drives" and used what was left (H) to assign to the local disk where my OS was installed too. If i remove the card reader and restart will windows re-label my local drive back to c:? I thought C: was supposed to be reserved for the main boot volume? Any help would be appreciated...its driving me nuts!!!
Reinstall if you want to change that.. doing anything else will most likely be far more time consuming and a huge headache.

Format and reinstall. The repair won't do you any good.
Quick format, install Windows.

To avoid this problem disconnect all your drivers other than the optical drive you're using for the install disk and the hdd you're installing Windows on. Reconnect the other drives after Windows is installed.
