I apologize for the long post...but I tried to put as much information in there to see if anything can be done to solve this.

I was running Windows 2000 sp4 on a P4 2.4GHz comp with a 160 gb boot hd and a 300gb backup hd. Last night I was checking out the RAID setup in the bios. I put the two HD's on RAID 0 and pressed on create array and then it said it would delete both HD's if I did so and then I pressed "N" for no and it went back to the program...I just checked a few more settings and then turned off the comp.

Now when I started the comp in the morning it won't boot. keeps saying to to insert a boot disk. My Bios detects both HD's. I tried to reinstall Windows 2000, but Window 2000 can't find any HD's even though the BIOS shows both HD's being present. Then I tried installing Windows XP, it worked...after quick formating my OS HD..it was able to install normally and now XP works.

My problem is that the backup HD is no longer detected by windows. It has all my important data on it. I ran Ontrack Data recovery...it sees the drive....but the "Drive Info" says that the NTDLR is missing or corrupt. I ran the data recovery of raw data from Ontrack and it was getting good amount of data back...but all file names and structures are lost....Is there any way to solve this problem at the root and restore my backup HD to the way it was before? Or is the only option left now to get whatever I can get out with data recovery?

I looked alot of stuff with NTDLR online and it all had to do with OS drives...my problem is with the backup does the same stuff apply to the backup HD?

A few things you can do. Check the BIOS and make sure that RAID is turned off as well as checking all hdd settings in the BIOS. Go into Device Manager and if the drive is in there and if so. uninstall the driver and when you restart the computer it will reinstall. Go to Administrative Tools in the Control Panel, Computer Management, Disk Management and see if you can see the drive and if there is a letter assigned. Run the diagnostic/repair software from the hdd mfg website on a floppy
