I have an HP computer and something is trying to dial out every so often. a box comes up giving me thirty seconds before it redials. I have the the phone line unplugged. I have went into msconfig and closed programs that look for updates and have checked the box in Internet properties never dial a connection. I have tried everything but it still pops up. We are using earth link dial up. Does anyone have a idea. thanks

Download and install the free version of ZoneAlarm firewall. When the program tries to dial out it should tell the name of the program or its location

The only thing that ZA told me was that Norton updates needed to access the Internet. That might be what it is. Is is a awful pest.

I'd suggest you set your firewall to allow any security software to coonect any time without asking, a feature found in ZoneAlarm. All other programs I always set up to ask. If you decide to use ZoneAlarm, disable your other firewall. ZoneAlarm is considered one of the best firewalls out there and very easy to set up and use and you can't beat the price
