Im wondering if I can use the stock Intel E6600 heatsink 80mm fan as a case fan for my side panel. Can I plug it into the another motherboard 3pin fan header instead of its usual 4pin cpu header?

my motherboard is the eVGA 680i and its got...

-CPU Header 4pin (taken)
-nFORCE Fan 3pin (taken)
-AUX Fan 3pin
-Chasis Fan 3pin
-Chassis Fan2 3pin
-Power 3pin
-Unlabeled 3pin

Thinking of trying the "Chassis Fan" first, I should expect this one to work best right?

Now the next thing, is how does such a fan work? I need to enter the BIOS, then System Monitoring? Then from here I can chose whether I want the rpm to stay a constant speed of my choice or auto, or this is done elsewhere, or its stuck on auto and cant be changed?

I guess you could, it's a pretty worthless fan for all the work you would have to put into it to get it off the hs and attached to the case though.

You could but why would you want to?

If your looking for better case cooling then you should first remove any exit fan grill for an up to 70% boost in exit airflow.

On another note that CPU cooler fan is piss poor as far as QFM goes.

If you want the best fan for exit air (or CPU cooler) in a 120MM size then get a Silverstone FM-121.
