So I start up Thunderbird today and it's working fine, then it tells me I need an update so I apply it and restart, now Thunderbird won't connect, I get an error saying "failed to connect to server mail.comcast.net". So what's the deal with this update that it would cause thunderbird not to work? What can I do to fix this problem?

I have the same problem with thunderbird and firefox. I currently have firefox set to not update. I really wish I knew why this was happening. I am running windows firewall on vista.

Same problem... I was working with my email messages in Thunderbird and got a message to upgrade - now after re-starting my computer NON of my setup connections work... Could you tell me how did you solve this problem?
