I have recently had to reinstall my PC from scratch. I bought a new WD Raptor 150GB as my main hard disk, my old 320GB Hard Disk that I used for my old install has been plugged into the second SATA port, and I have a 500GB Western Digital MyBook for extra storage and backup.
Recently the new setup has been acting up worse than the old setup. These problems aren't regular but they occur in clumps -for example I would have to restart the system at least 4 times before I get a stable platform.
Most common problem includes the error message of General Host Services Has encountered an error etc along with the option to send an error report. Sometimes its different programs that crash, including NOD 32, Media Center Receiver Service, CLI (which I think is something to do with my sound card) and other random programs including HMI, SVCHOST. When one or all of these programs crash one after the other, the entire system slows down and becomes practically inoperable. Invoking task manager doesn't help either as it takes a good 10 minutes to appear.
The above problem sometimes occurs once I have opened IE 7, sometimes they occur just after the NOD 32 logo has disappeared off the screen.
More worrying problem I frequently have is that the above programs, or Winlogon.exe would crash saying that the memory could not be read, click OK to continue or cancel to debug -whichever I choose I would get another message like that saying memory could not be read, and it would be another similar program that crashes - the program which decides to crash varies on a session to session basis!!
When svchost.exe crashes the system would display a message saying the system is shutting down due to an error caused by NT AUTHORITY – I then get 45 seconds to save my work before the system simply restarts.
On some occasions when it was Ntlogon.exe or winlogon.exe the entire system blue screened with the following message:
STOP: C000021A {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.
At this point the entire system has locked up on that screen.
I will post a Hijackthis report in a separate post in case it is software causing the problem or as I suspect a compatibility problem with my memory and motherboard.
Can anybody shed some light on this?!?
