I installed all of my new components in a new box and tried to use the old CD/DVD from my dead Dell Dimension 8200. In the BIOS I tried to select the CD to boot to and inserted Vista. The CD drive is recognized on startup, blinks green light and then the screen hangs on an "incorrect boot device" error.

Any ideas, besides the obvious getting a new CD?

I switched around the IDE connection, jumpers and reset the CMOS/BIOS.

Thanks in advance.

Specs of new build:

MSI P5n Platinium
2 MB stick of Corsair DDR2
Intel Q6600 2.4 quad
XFX 8800 GTX
Vista Ultimate
Used CD/DVD from previous Dell Dimension 8200

I just had to replace a 2 or three year old DVD drive because it failed to install windows vista.

Got a new Lite On SATA DVD drive and low and behold, no problems...

Did the same thing. Got a Plextor SATA, installed perfectly.

So far, so good with Vista. Pretty nice I'll have to say.
