Ubuntu gvideo card issues

I have ubunt 9.03 instaklled
i have a geforce 5200fx from i did the driver search on nvidia installed the latest driver manually because with installing the restricted drivers via ubuntu interface i couldnt change screen res past 640x480 and still cant

i have also tried dpkg-reconfigure-xorg-xorg or whatever that command was dont know if i got it right and i get quite a few errors starting with (ee)

  1. Do you have an nvidia control panel under System ==> Prefererences?

    Which driver version did you install?
  2. i intalled driver version 173.14.18 and yes i do have an nvidia control panel
  3. What kind of display do you have?

    You should have the option to select your display or select a generic display with similar specs so you can adjust the resolution.
