I am trying to attach a Win2k8 server as a backup domain controller.

As part of this, I am supposed to run adprep /forestprep to prepare the forest.

I have copied the adprep32 exe (from the Win2k8 CD) over to my existing DC, and run it from the command prompt. However, nothing appears to happen. It doesn't return an error, it just returns to the command prompt after a couple of seconds. The log file for adprep is empty, but it does create the log file.

I have already tried:

Making sure that I am logged in as a Schema Admin and Enterprise Admin as well as Administrator.

Running the prompt from Run As, and selecting elevated priviledges.

Making sure that I am using the 32 bit version.

Am running it on the current Domain Controller (which is a Win2k3 R2 32 bit server.)

I have read over many different posts about running this, but I don't see what I am doing wrong.

I just resolved this: I needed to copy the whole folder which contains adprep32 exe, not just the exe.

Then it ran fine.
