Hey,

I was just wondering if anyone on this board knows how exactly the Windows Vista Activation procedure works? If I want to install my copy of Vista Ultimate on another computer, do I have to first deactivate the copy I have running now first? Also, I have yet to activate Vista on my Parallels Desktop VM as I have been thinking about installing a Boot Camp Partition instead. If I haven't activated yet, can I simply delete this virtual disk drive and simply reinstall Vista via BootCamp or even on a whole new physical machine?
I'm confused as to how the activation process works i.e. does Microsoft simply deactivate an old computer whenever it receives an activation request from a new computer?

I also remember reading somewhere that Microsoft only allows one deactivation per product key. I hope this is just a rumor because that is a hella restrictive license agreement.

BTW, does anyone know if the student version of Vista is OEM or not? I purchased it for $15.00 at my university.

Thanks

I don't really have an answer to this, nor do I know how long this has been posted here, but I've been wondering the same thing. I bought a new hard drive for my laptop and want to use the same key on the new hard drive, but don't know how to deactivate it so I can re-use it, or if it's even possible :\
