Norton 360 slows multitasked in Vista down to a crawl when TWO OR MORE programs are trying to access the hard drive at the same time. It was so bad that I almost went back to XP. I FINALLY found the answer on this guys site: Once I uninstalled Norton 360, the mutitasking slowdown went away immediately. I would imagine that Norton 2007 has the same issue. JUST SAY NO TO NORTON!

"The worst offenders are the anti-virus suites with real-time protection. According to these results, the latest Norton Internet Security degrades boot time by nearly 50 percent. And no, that isn't a typo in the disk column. It also makes all disk access sixteen times slower!"
PS Norton 360 is also a pain to uninstall. Need disk and the Norton removal tool from their site.

I haven't used Norton in years. Best thing I ever did was give up on that software.

Norton Antivirus is a heap of crap, no one should ever use it. It's slow and detection rate is poor.

AVG!

I downloaded the internet suite trial version.

It's been working great. The only thing I've noticed so far is the email scan seems to slow things down a bit in "windows mail".

Norton is a big, slow hog of program.
I had it on my last XP machine. It does a good job keeping viruses out, but eventually I started having problems with it, even after a reformat of XP. Eventually uninstalled it. I couldn't believe how much it affected my computer and how it slowed things down.
