I already posted a topic here: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/foru [...] oot-sector At first I thought my hardware may be at fault, but since a format and re-install of my system I have pinpointed that Norton Internet Security 2007 is the problem here.
Im running XP Pro SP2, I did fresh install of windows and apps etc and the system was running fine. Then I installed Norton NIS 2007 and now have the following problem:- When booting up windows it gets to the welcome screen and it re-boots, no reason and no error on reboot or asking to try safe mode, just restarts? Usually second time round it boots up fine and no problems? This happens pretty much all the time, first boot fails and second if not third work fine and I don’t have to touch anything. I uninstalled Norton and problem went away, restarts and boot ups worked flawlesly, put Norton back on and problem started again, last night after Norton updates it took 5 attempts of just rebooting itself over and over until finalled Desktop loaded. Im not sure what its conflicting with? Anyone any ideas on this?

I don't know why norton would be doing that. You should send an email to the support team at symantec. They should know what to do since that is their full time job.

Thanks for the response. I was thinking how odd this was and thought it could be my Asus motherboard, after all if I wasnt alone then others should have surely experienced this problem? So I emailed them for expert advice and was basically told "dont know, maybe change your motherboard" I mean what kind of customer service is that for a purchase of their £120 motherboard!?
I will email Symantec and see if they can advise. If not then new motherboard I guess.
It's Norton, what do you expect? Ever since I worked on my aunt's computer that has Norton on it, I have been against Norton. It's ok, but I would probably not use it myself.
Look for AVG antivirus online, it's free for one thing, and it's decent software. I like it better than Norton, and for the firewall function, try Zonealarm, or there's another called PC tools firewall plus that I've used before that seems good. They tell you a new motherboard? No. If everything else works, it's their software, and their software seems like junk to me. But I would not get a new mobo if everything else works, more like ask for a refund maybe.
