Hey, I have Vista Ultimate. I liek it because of the DX10 for games like World in Conflict and Crysis but the performance on alot of the new games is poor! I'm running a C2D E6750 at 2.66ghz, 2gb of DDr2 800 ram and a 8800Gt. But gaming it feels like i have a P4 with a 6800. It's really annoying and games like WiC when ran on xp my FPS was 40 and up where now its 23 average in WiC. Does anyone know how I can make Vista have high performance? Any suggestions would help. I'd hate to go back to xp because Vista is slow and Im running a good rig here too.

You are probably staring at your problem as you type right now. Vista. Few ways you can speed up games in Vista.
1. Add more RAM (4GB for 64bit, 3GB for 32bit)
2. Turn off all eyecandy and perks (side bar and stuff)
3. Pack it up and move back to XP
Your choice.

Switch to a Linux based os.
More faexibility, better all round and it's not MS.

i dont liek linux. Im nto a super MS fanboy but I still like MS products and the only reason i went to Vista is becaue of DX10. Anways i read a good guide and indexing is done on my comp so Vista runs well now. The only game i notice a FPS lag is in crysis which isnt suprising. I like xp because its faster and w\e but I liek the whoel Vista interface and.. DX10 so yep. I will never go to linux. Or Mac

With the hardware thats out currently nobody is getting super frame rates in Crysis with High settings and resolutions.

Vista Ultimate/AMD X2/2 gigs of ram/10k HDD's/8800GT I get over 100 FPS on COD4 :)

Crysis needs next years SLI rig or crossfire offering to get better play with the eye candy that makes it worthwhile.

IMO + some fact there are quite a few reviews on this game even on this site that state you need a monster rig and even then its no picnic.

And on the other hand....if you like MS products that much why don't you use XP instead? I mean Crysis is nice but have you seen the new IDTECH 5 Engine from the inventors of 3D shootem up's and light and advanced shadows? Check out the trailers and search for it on google. It's an engine many game developers will use because quality games can be made really quick (for example 1 whole map in like 10 days). Saves them and other companies a lot of money in developing costs. The nice part is. It's DX9 based in a special way. I dont think we see games arrive that only run on Dx10 yet. They still support DX9 as many people don't buy Vista. And to be honoust. DX10 is not that super special...it does add a few nice things that DX9 doesn't have ok but to spend hundreds of dollars for it to be able to make full use of that few extra effects? Crysis also runs on DX9. I think I'll stick with XP thank you. By the time Windows 7 Vienna comes to shine in 2010 and Microsoft brings quality this time, I might go DX10 also as the videocards come cheaper and have better performance cause hey.....20FPS on an 8800 ultra playing Crysis? I think it's worth the wait. XP please. :)
