1. I have a small secondary drive that I would like to use as a place to store files, pictures etc. Does it need an operating system installed?
2. Before I convert the secondary drive to save the important stuff, I have a copy of XP PRO 64bit that I would like to install to see how it goes (install drivers, check conflicts etc) as I might move to XP Pro 64bit.
How do I do #2? Stick in the cd, run it and specify the correct drive?
I currently have the disk as a slave an in the process of formating it.
Thanks

If you're just using it for storage, you do not have to install an OS, the OS your using will/should recognize it, e.g., if you currently have C drive and D drive (optical), it should show up as E. To install an OS on the 2nd drive just install it on that drive off the CD. If you're going to install an OS as well as use it for back up, suggest you format it using the first partition for the OS and the second for storage
