got me to thinking that with all the processing power sitting idle that in time, software will arise to use it in some interesting ways.

One simple one I like occurs to me: Have some kind of robot like device that sits in your living room running wirelessly from your PC (or networked PCs) that run some AI software that gives it perception and some personality, and it can learn, etc., so that you get to meet your PC when you get home, talk to it, find out some stuff, maybe hear a joke, etc. Perhaps it would learn you are interested in astronomy, for instance, and tell you the day's news. Of course, downloaded personalities could be interesting in time. The keyboard may become like a typewriter.
