I am trying to create a firewall, I have read that there are certain rules,first rule is About The inbound and outbound of the ICMP packet, can any one tell me actually how to check the inbound and outbound rule,how it works and implement the rule in firewall in c language.

The rules are not in C, they are saved in the config file in iptables syntax.

Or you can use a nice gui front end with FireStarter, it also allows you to monitor traffic and your alerts in real time. On Ubuntu just: apt-get install firestarter
