In my system using ubuntu as operating system the gateway is not taking why?

using ubuntu O.S, while the gateway is not taking while setting IP address. Why?

Please describe your question better. It sounds to me like you're not getting an IP address assigned by the DHCP server on the local network, is that correct? Could you give us the output of "ifconfig -a" in full?

ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.2 up

route add default gw 192.168.1.1

Replace 192.168.1. with your actual LAN IP range. If you're not sure what it is you can find it in your router if you have one.
