Poll for which card to use, if you don't feel like typing :)

I was reading the marathon article, day 4, and they had written that no one runs at 1280x1024 using an 8800 GTX. I found that a bit strange.. I have the VX922 monitor, and its native res is 1280x1024. I was originally planning on picking up a single GTX card for a system I was planning for August. A bit early, I know. Anyway, I had also considered getting a GTS 320mb, figured that the 640mb performance increase wasn't worth the extra cash. Perhaps later I would buy a second for SLI. I decided against this as a single GTX is less expensive than 2 320s.

I plan on running Crysis and Bioshock at max settings, hopefully. Which setup would you guys lean towards? I'm sure we will need to see some benchmarks of those games to get a good enough idea, but wouldn't mind hearing some speculation. Also, I am a bit worried about SLI fitting in the case I want to get, the Antec P182.

The rest of the system planned, if it helps, is (most likely change as August rolls around):
EVGA 680i A1 board
Core 2 E6600 (have OC experience, so I might do that if it becomes necessary)
Mushkin XP PC8000 2x1GB
2x250GB SATA2 Seagates in Raid 0

Thanks for your opinions :)

The answer(without even reading what you posted) is simple, if you have the money buy the 8800GTX. At 1280x1024 you can run x16 AA and x16 AF no problem.

I personally own one and use that same resolution beautiful, simply beautiful.
COH runs at 70FPS+ with everything on ULTRA/MAX, plus when DX10 patch comes out for it ill be able to run that too(as will you).

But really i would hold off for about 2 weeks get the low down on the HD 2900XT. Right now seems a bad idea to buy a 8800GTX when its competitor is slowly making its way out.

Depends on how future proof or how long u wanna keep it.

Id say a 320GTS will be fine for most games @ 12x10 right now, and should still kick arse for a while. the GTX will DEF last u longer, but for the extra cash... IMHO, a gtx just isnt worth it for 12x10.

Almost all current titles, less Flight Sim X and outdoors oblivion, max out on your screen with the 640 at stock settings. The 640 will OC to near gtx speeds for even more boost for the upcoming big titles like Crysis.

But, the 640 is $150 less than the GTX, and has enough ram to handle the upcoming titles.

I bought the GTX 1 day after launch for my 24" 1920 x 1200 res. I run max eye candy on everything. ( no flight sims for me)

If I had the 1280x1024 screen today, the GTS would be my choice.

personally im using a 8800GTX on a 19" TFT Monitor (1280x1024)

all i know is ive not found 1 game i cant run flawlessly (im a gamer but not a number crunching gamer so dont ask me fps etc) i dont stutter, i dont lose frames.... brilliant card on 1280x1024, plus i have alot of headroom incase i ever find some cash laying around for a bigger monitor.

tis all good, if you can afford the 8800GTX by all means... get the 8800GTX, in my experience its the most expensive graphics card ive bought (£400 when i got it) and it was worth every penny in terms of current DX9 games. (waiting for crysis)

P.s
in my mind theres no such thing as overkill, as long as the card doesnt skip beats im happy! - GTX delivers for me :)

Well, there is always the option that I would add another 320mb later, if it came down to it. That would just be a bit more expensive than a single GTX.
