I was recently consulted to look into additional quad-display options for a client, and have found varied results. I know that there are options of buying a single PCI/PCIe card (Matrox, ATI), but was curious if it was possible to run 4 displays from 2x PCIe cards in order to save some money. I've looked around and haven't found a great wealth of information regarding this option. Does anyone know if that'll work (provided they aren't run in SLI mode,) or if not, any other options aside from the expensive single card choice? Thanks!

Yes, you can run 4 displays with 2 PCIe cards (in non-SLI/X-fire mode).
