As of now I plan to get a 1GB ram more to run it in dual channel. So is 2GB ram enough to get this machine run Vista 64 smoothly?? I am not a very intense gamer(just play strategy games like Age of Empires3 and stuff). Will I get decent performance running vista 64 on this one?? Plz help and thx
I upgraded my computer to Vista 64 from 32 about a month ago and my hardware setup is very similar to yours. 1GB of RAM should be enough to run 64-bit but you will see a considerable gain out of going to 2GB. I saw very little performace gain between 32 and 64 bit until I went from 2GB to 4GB of RAM. 32-bit will only see 3.5GB of RAM, thats all 32-bit O/S's, not just windows.
I upgraded because of the RAM and because of a few games that I did see a tiny (1-5%) gain from.
A huge disadvantage to 64-bit is driver availability, mostly for printers, scanners, fax machines, etc. Major companies like HP and Lexmark do have 64-bit drivers but they are standard drivers, not device specific, so you may have difficulties.
My overall advice, unless you have 4GB+ of RAM or a 64-bit ready program (game, 3D modeling, etc), stay away from 64-bit windows.
Ohh I see.THx for your advice. So your not using a GPU card like me?? I will assume thats why we have similar configs Another thing is,yes you are very right about lack of drivers, but i dont plan on using printers, scanners etc. And,as you see,I said that my onboard grphics are pretty good but the driver support is only for 64-bit vista.Although I do not have any 64-bit ready programme yet,I suppose my onboard graphics should give me much better performance under 64-bit(coz of drivers) than what i am getting now. So I conclude that I will still go with 64-bit as my machine should do fine in handling 64bit OS(as you said). You agree with my decision??Thx mate for all the help Regards!!
