Ubuntu 9.10 partitioner does not see my XP install

I have a fresh XP installation on my 640gb HDD. When I go to install Ubuntu 9.10 (either directly from the Live CD or from the main disk menu), you would go through the installation menu like normal.

Instead of going to the screen with the colored bars that let you configure where and how you want to install Ubuntu, it gets me to the "Prepare Partitions" screen (http://blogs.sun.com/observatory/resource/finalLinuxPart.png) but does not show any HDD's or partitions to install to.

Any ideas of why this is happening?

More about ubuntu partitioner install
  1. What kind of SATA chipset do you have?

    Please post your full specs.

    Semper Fi :)
  2. Is it a basic disk or a dynamic disk?
  3. It is a basic disk. It is a GIGABYTE GA-G31M-ES2L (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128357&cm_re=G31M-_-13-128-357-_-Product). I resized the XP partition and gave Ubuntu its own, but the blank partitioner stage still appears.

Thanks for all the help in advance guys.
