Am i cpu bound in oblivion

Hi i have been playing oblivion for a while now and have gone thriugh three graphics cards playing it i started with the one that came with the system 9800 that just didnt cut it so i got a x800xl nice but no eye candy.
(Oh by the way im running on a agp board )finally i got a x1650xt so i have shader 3 aa and hdr lighting.

The thing is it dosent seem to matter if i have aa on x6 or off im getting the same fps, this seems to hint at being restricted by the cpu.

System : Athalon 64 3000+ 2 gig
1 gig ram
foxcon mobo
400 watt psu
x1650 xt
Thanks

Don't forget, 1gb ram is causing part of your problem. But yeah the 3000 is pretty long in the tooth. As cheap as AMD's are now you can get a dual-core for a song and probably drop it right into your existing rig!

1 gig shouldnt be that big a deal. i havent seen any noticable difference
between 1 and 2 gigs. in oblivion. of course more ram is better.

on the dualcore thing it depends if the op is on a socket754 or 939.

Im on a 754 unfortunatly so im pretty nackered as far as i know for upgrading unless you know some where i can get a better chip for it.

Going to get new system in about a year tops any way im playing in 1024x768 in oblivion to get the frames its pretty un playable at any thing below about 20 fps min.

I could turn things like distance view down but you loose a lot of the game like that.

I have an x24400 cpu and an 8800 gpu.

I get a low of 30fps in oblivion but this is with the sliders maxed out.
It gets choppy sometimes. its just a tough game on systems.

Oblivion doesn't use more than about 450MB of RAM when I'm playing and that's with modified cell numbers so the loading times aren't as long because it stores more cells in RAM.
