More Information

I was a bit disappointed in the solar powered PC article. It spent the first two pages starting to get into the subject and then digressed into a general discussion about solar power with little or nothing to do with what I thought was to be the subject of the article. Granted, understanding the foundations of solar power is important. It just didn't seem to go beyond that, though, and get into an actual implementation.

Something I would like to have seen was more discussion about powering PCs from the panels themselves. For example, at least in my opinion, it really doesn't make sense to hook panels up to an inverter to produce AC to power a PC when the power supply's just going to re-convert it back into DC. Are there options for power supplies that use a DC to DC converter (I've googled on this and found information about things like this). Would something like this work: http://www.powerstream.com/DC_PC.htm

Maybe I went into reading this article with expectations that were too high.

Regards.
