My desktop pc (windows XP) is set to boot in 1280x1024 resolution due to a previous monitor it was connected to, HOWEVER, that resolution is not supported by the current monitor.

As a result, the screen goes blank when booting into windows XP. I can boot into safe mode and change the resolution to 800x600, however, once I reboot normally the screen goes blank again because it still tries to boot into 1280x1024.

The only fix I've found is to connect that other monitor (which supports that resolution) and lower the resolution while in normal operation (not safe mode).

This will happen again, so my question is: while in safe mode how can I tell windows to boot into a lower resolution on the next normal bootup?
