So I've had this memory trouble for a while, it prevented my computer for booting up. So I switched the sticks and it's fine. I had to unseat the video card in order to take out the ram. Now when I boot up I get artifacts. I tried pushing it down more, the fan is running, and I installed the latest drivers. Help?

Specs:
P4 2.5 Ghz
Radeon 9800 AIW
2x512mb Ram
Dell Dimmension 4550

your card may be busted.

Have you got another system you can plug it into to test out??

The card may be overheating. My old 9800 pro began artifacting after 2 years due to excessive heat. Dont know why it wasnt originally, but the cooler you have to agree is puny (assuming the AIW uses the same cooler as the pro). Maybe you need to clean the HS of dust, as dust heavily increases thermal resistance. Or just buy an aftermarket cooler like a zalman vf700-alcu

I felt the card and it did seem rather hot to the touch. I don't think the 9800 has a temperature sensor. What's the cheapest agp card that can replace this?

I did this upgrade a little while ago i got an x800xl from ebay you can get aiw versions if you still want the aiw but when i looked they were rare.

This place sells x850pros for about 50 quid no aiw but a great card murders the 9800 i think these are secondhand though

I isolated the problem as the fan, as it makes strange noises and dosent spin fast enough. Any way to change fan speeds on radeon 9 series card?

Dont think so. Unless you have a fan controller or something.
