I've been researching this; I now have mounts, junction points, SUBST's coming out my ears. And I'm still confused.
It seems like all my software is centered on C:\users\Dan\ which is fine. But I don't want to put a zillion folders and files under there, since it will eventually fill up the partition.
Note: the first hard drive 1/2 Vista [C:] and 1/2 XP [D:]; my second hd [F:] is nice and empty)
Note2: I'm the sole user of my PC.
So I want to 'direct' everything to the second drive. My options seem to be (starting with the scariest):
2. Using disk management (somewhere in Control Panel, I think) to mount F:\ as C:\Users\Dan\ . But to do that the ..\Dan\ folder must be empty. I guess I could rename the current one as ..\Dan2\ and then create a new \Dan\ and then copy over all the files and folders (including hidden). But I still worry that Vista won't accept it.
3. Move down a level. Use disk management to point C:\Users\Dan\Documents\ to F:\Users\Dan\Documents (or just F:\Documents). That looks like it should be safe; I don't see any weird stuff in the Documents folder. Then repeat for \Music\ and \Pictures\ etc. But this would be more time consuming and not as esthetically pleasing.
