Yep I feel like a fool
I used to be able to copy files to the cd writer through windows.
Then I installed Nero to copy movies and I didnt like it so I removed it.
Now I cant copy files to the cd writer. WTF
What in windows didnt get reset on the removal of that gigantic mess called NERO
It goes through the motions to copy but it isnt recognizing the blank disk.

Do a search for Nero and delete all the files that are found. If this doesn't do it, you'll have to search the Registry and delete all references to Nero but be sure to back up your Registry and be very careful. Could try Eusing Free Registry Cleaner and CCleaner to delete registry items, both free, before deleting the registry manually. Have used both these programs and never had a problem. Delete a program does not delete all files and registry entries.
I have cc cleaned
no love
I just went into the registry and is is totally littered with nero references.
Im a little nervous about deleting them all as I dont want to F up any associations as in leave them blank or pointing no where.
If nothing else for now do you know of a small quick prog to use to get this cd burned.
I really need it now and then Ill worry the rest later.
All I seem to find is the all inclusive packages. I have all I need for dvds iso's etc.
I just want to drag a file to the cd and burn it

Audacity is good and free. There is a free version of Media Monkey, the program I'm using. Very nice in the Gold version but costs about $29 for lifetime updates.
Ill try those.
I think I have figured it out, at least on one drive.
I went to my computer|the drive|properties and turned off recording.
Then I un/reinstalled the drive and turned recording back on.
Now the cd-w is working
I guess Ill have to do the same for the dvd cd writer tomorrow.
thanks for the fast help, Im working on someone elses box and I needed some files. Now I look like a fool, but I can finish.
What a bunch of crap. If only uninstall would put your computer back the way it found it.
Ok its a new day and I got it fixed.
I dont know why I had to dump the drive and reinstall it after deleting Nero, but it worked.
I really appreciate the bootable windows remark. Not really helpful but I needed a quick laugh.
Problem is that i need to back up some things before I start over.
Glad you got it worked out. The problem with Nero and Roxio Easy Media Creator is that they have too many programs in them and make too many changes to the system. The advantage it that they are less expensive than getting different programs for different functions, e.g., managing music, video and photo editing, etc. While they do an adequate job, they are not as good as individual programs designed for a specific task. I used Roxio for years but finally gave it up and eliminated a lot of headaches.
I did the same
I had roxio a while ago and used it. Then I removed it after a rebuild and went with some individual progs for specific tasks and had much better luck. Then like a fool I tried Nero and evertyhing slowed to a halt and I didnt see any benifit to it. So now Im back where I was and much better off.
It is time for a rebuild but I havent done a decent backup lately.
Maybe I'll make it a resolution. After all it is cold and snowing and I think I had enough to drink yesterday.
Found the best time to install Windows is with a hangover, the pain of the install lessons the pain of the hangover although usually more fun getting the latter pain for me, unless I get started on Tequila in which case I'm too embarrassed to see anyone I was with for at least a week.
i TOTALLY UNDERSTAND
I have a little trouble with the brown liquor my self.
Apparently I havent seen enough Clydesdales though. I returned the computer I worked on last night (this morning) and I'll be damned.
I just put a ham in the oven call me at 6
OH Well happy New Year!!
