Ok i have had 2 different motherboards an asus m2n-e sli and an asus m2n sli deluxe also bought 2gig of corsair pc6400 800mhz ( 2x 1gig matched) and 2gig OCZ pc6400 800mhz (2x 1gig match), was origionally running xp pro sp2 32bit and now running vista ultimate because i heard that the 32bit version of xp didnt support 2gig of RAM (any excuse 2 upgrade tbh) any way xp wouldnt boot with 2gig and vista wont either after tryn 2 clean installs of vista and xp on both motherboards and using both sets of RAM thinking that the RAM may of been faulty but still BSOD on windows screen wont boot in safe mode either, i am using an AMD dual core 6000 am2 socket and an nvidia 8800gts, my brain is finally had enough after tryn all sorts i figured it must be windows as bios is allowing me access and recognising the 2gig i hav in at the time i have tried all combinations of the RAM into my motherboards and just dont no what else to try PLEASE PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME!!!!!
by the way it will boot fine with 1 gig!
Thanks in advance for any replies!!!
If u need any more info about my pc or componants please ask!
The limit with 32-bit OSes is 4GB... 32-bit XP and 32-bit Vista should run 2GB with no issue. Test the RAM with memTest and make sure there isn't a problem with it.
This could be a RAM voltage issue. Make sure your BIOS has set the vdimm correctly. First you need to determine what the manufacturer specs are for your sticks. MOBOs frequently set the RAM voltage at a default of 1.8v but a lot of RAM requires as much as 2.2 v - if this is the case it is not uncommon for one stick to work alone but not two together.
If you need more help with this please post the specific make and model of Corsair and OCZ that you have. A link to the Newegg page will work.
thanks for the reply here is the detail on the RAM i have!
OK, according to this link: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/1167 [...] ifications your OCZ takes 2.1 v. So if your BIOS is setting it to 1.8 or 1.9 this could well be your problem.
Go into the BIOS and find the ram voltage setting - possibly called vdimm? - On my ASUS p5b deluxe it is on the same page where you set the basic system speed parameters - FSB, memory divider etc. and where you set the other voltages such as CPU, NB, etc. It shouldn't be too hard to find but if you can't we can probably look up the exact place with a little effort. Anyway, once there simply set the voltage to 2.1, save and reboot. Then shut down and put in the second stick and cross your fingers.
Not sure what voltage the Corsair takes. If this gets the OCZ working we can cross that bridge then.
