A few weeks ago someone gave me an old XP machine with 512MB of RAM and a Celeron D running at 2GHz. I want to put either Windows 98SE or Windows 2000 Professional on it. Well, the bios recognizes the keyboard and mouse, Windows XP recognizes the keyboard and mouse, but none of my Windows installation CDs recognize them. When it comes up to hit a key to boot from the CD, nothing happens when a key is pressed and it boots into Windows XP. Can someone help me with this please?

You need to enable the USB keyboard for DOS applications in the BIOS.
