Tyring to install Vista on my new rig. Biostar TA770 w/ Sata HD and SATA optical drive. Once it gets to the "COMPLETING" phase of install (after 1st reboot) it freezes up and stalls. Reseting doesn't help. I found a couple of little tidbits about SATA optical drives being a problem with Vista install.... I plan to try swapping the SATA Optical out for a EIDE and then if that doesn't work maybe a SATA driver for Optical will help? Please let me know if anyone else had this prob and how you fixed it. I don't want to waste another 5 hrs tonight!
Well, if you successfully ran the DVD and through the install, I doubt it's the hardware. If it wasn't going to work, it wouldn't work at all.
Pop into the Bios and make your optical drive bootable. (My priorities are Floppy, Optical, and then HDD). Insert your Vista DVD into the drive, shut down, and boot to that. When it does it's thing, you should be able to select "Repair Install". Takes a while to do it's thing, tho.

Hmmm... from the couple of bits of info I have run across on the web, SATA optical can work, but sometimes will not fully complete install. I am looking for confirmation on this. I think it happens when the drive spins down to a real low speed to check some copy protection or something like that.
