How do I install linux on new VAIO laptop with pre-loaded windows 7

I am trying to install linux on new VAIO laptop with pre-loaded windows 7. Once linux has been installed, it worked in the same session.
Next time onwards neither Linux nor Windows 7 work. In fact once switched on to boot nothing appear. I had to go to Sony service station to get everyting re-installed for Windown 7 as it comes pre-loaded. Is there any ocumentation available to install linus without disturbing existing Windown 7 OS?

Thanks a lot in advance.

  1. Which linux? There are lots of guides for most of them.
  2. You might have messed up the partitions. Like audiovoodoo said, it depends on the distro, but I once erased my windows by mistake with the ubuntu install partition editor. However, I don't think that this would explain linux not working.
At least I know that win7 isn't the problem, since I co-installed mint with 7 on my dad's netbook.
