do you save power in general when your computer is on all day or if you shut down and then turn it on everyday. In my case i use it every day at least 5 hours a day.
You would save power if you just shut it down for a few minutes a day. I don't see any reason why powering up the system would draw that much extra power...
Yeah, but turn on and off a PC twice a day, every day, wouldn't be considered very frequent. Thats just normal operation.
The typical PC probably uses about 90w - 125w per hour when idling depending on your components and how efficient your power supply is.
For example, the Core 2 Duo E6600 uses 21w when idling and the Radeon X1900XT 512MB uses 30w. Toss in my Seasonic S12 PSU which is 80% efficient and just those two components will use (21 + 30) / 80% = 64w.
Power consumption for electrical appliances are measured in watts per hour. Therefore, a 100w light bulb left on for 24 hours will consume 2,400w watts.
