Computer restarts in the night. Why?

Last response: in Windows Vista

Several times over the last month I have come down to my computer only to have found that it has restarted in the night. I checked to see that it wasn't a vista update and there was none. Is there a way I can tell what caused this and why? I just installed vista in December and all else seems to be working great. Thanks.
I am running vista ultimate 64 bit.

Disable Automatic Restart under System Failure and see if there's an error message on the screen.

Are you sure you did not have a primary power fluctuation or interuption during the night?

It was only my diskeeper that was doing a restart to defrag during restart.

Nothing like that. In order for diskeeper to get to some parts of the hard drive files it needs to be restarted. This gives a much better defrag situation. I forgot all about this.

Hmm, I thought that wasn't the case under vista.

But there are lots of apps which will restart. AV, AS, AU, heck you can even configure the BIOS on lots of motherboards to reboot on a schedule.
