This is my PC's Specs
MSI 915G combo FR
Pentium4 @ 3.4 Stock
2X1GB DDR2@533
1xDVDrom
2X80gb SATAii Seagate HD
Finaly Q-tec 550w DualFan PSU
Will it run with 2900xt?

I am curious about the specs that are on the label, after reading this review... (I know, its all Danish except the conclusion  )

Q-tec 550w review, overclocking.dk[/url]"]Conclusion:
I actually like this power supply. It has an unusual but nice finish, and it virtually require that you do something about those noisy fans, but for some (and I must admit that I'm one) this is simply just a direct challenge.
Of course I cannot say anything about the stability over time, but in the period I've been using it it has behaved well.

However, I'd really have liked if Q-Tec had spent a few more components on a thermal control circuit for those fans so you actually got a product that was more readily useable out-of-the-box (it's just too noisy as it is), perhaps some potentiometers so you could mess with the voltages, and finally a more truthful product description might be in order.

Advantages:
Low price.
Decent performance.
Nice finish.

Disadvantages:
Too noisy.
Somewhat "creative" power claims.
Not sure if I would trust it, apparently there are some voltage that are off and need adjustment, the fans run at full speed, and not sure what "creative" power spec means - I interpret that as "exaggerated". Maybe it is rated at "peak" which would mean it is prob a 400w~450w in real world usage.

I would recommend you upgrading your power supply; the HD 2900XT consumes a bit more power than the 8800GTX, so I'd double check the 12V rails etc.

First of all we are not sure of the actual power requierments of that card yet. Second it will probably need one of the new 8 pin PCI-e connectrs.

Based on some reviews of the 2900XT 512MB, the card uses about 25w - 35w more than the 8800GTX 768MB card. That is based on total system power consumption. That means at peak power the 2900XT will use between 157w - 167w of power.

The 2900XT will require a 6-pin and 8-pin power connectors. The PCI-e port provides 75w of power. The 6-pin connector provides another 75w and the 8-pin connector provides a whopping 150w of power. That's a total 300w of power available to the 2900XT, but the three connectors helps balance out the power draw.

Some power numbers are starting to come out. HardOCP has a new article out about the 2900XT - go take a look at it. ATI specs the 2900XT as needing 175-225W and minimum 550W PSU to handle a single 2900XT. Calculate amps from the wattage requirement and you get a total of 15-19 amps on the 12V rail.

I'm wondering how many people that have the correct amps on their setups will have to find adapters to be able to run this monster correctly 8O .

So you'll need a PSU with around 30 to 35 amps on the 12 v rail to power the whole system. It does not look like that PSU will work. 8O
I was being sarcastic with my last question BTW, but thanks anyway Rugger.
Watts/Volts=Amps for those of you that do not already know this.

So what I'm gathering, more than likely adapters won't be offered(because it may compermise the power draw),It'll be upgrade on a psu again 8O .

Yes that is one of many. If you look in the Reference list in my sig you will find more. Any of them listed in that link that have the 8 pin PCI-e connecotr will be compatible with the new 2900s.
Hey, how come you dont have the FSP 600 on your list, is it crap? lol, cos i have one

excellent, good man thanks, quick question, you being the guru of power here, i doubt there'd be much headroom for an Overclock with my CPU, its running at 2.7 at the moment without any voltage overclocks, i wouldnt have a clue as to the power consumption of that, i do know that a 3.4Ghz OC with a 6400 can consume 135W not to mention the extra fan power involved, my point is is there much headroom with a 6400 OC'd at 2.7, 4 gig corsair xms2, 2 harddrives, 3 USB devices, ahh its probably too vague

Any idea what that utility is that you can install that will give you an idea of the current power consumption?

and sorry if those questions are noobish, im completely useless when it comes to the electricity side of things other than totaling up the wattage

Id appreciate your opinion though, if you think its dodgy, then id be very interested, simply cos ill go with a 8800 gts or gtx instead, i dont fancy spending another load on a psu which just increases the cost of the card to 8800gtx levels

8O i filled out the power consumption and it was around 479, definitely not for me then, at least when i changed it from my 7800GTX to a 8800GTX it said 527W

I don't know where people are getting this 150W figure for the 8pin connector. Each pair of wires only supplies a max of about 25W. So the 6pin offers a max of 75W as we all know. So how does adding an exstra pair of wires going to double the power on that connector?

I got that info while reading a review of the 2900XT from Guru3D.com.

Be sure to read throught the whole Sticky there. So you know exactly what your looking for so your know if you have the right amount of Amperage on the +12v rails.
will do, the amp. on the rails is definitely something i need to get upto speed on( because everyones always on about it lol ), but i need to know what im at when i get a GPU upgrade before August, thanks again
