I bought an OEM single pack XP program for a new computer I'm building for friends.
On the outside of the pack it said you must use the "OEM preinstallation kit" to install it.
I've never had to do that before, and I have bought at least 2 dozen OEM before.
From what I can see the kit is like $250.

Am I missing something?

Never seen that before either. (Then again, I usually just make a copy of the product key on the sticker and file it away - never to be read again!) Have you tried installing with it anyway?

*edit* It almost sounds like some kind of proprietary OEM version. Like something Dell or HP might use. Like maybe they have to install special drivers or something. \_(o.O)_/ I'll just stop typing now... I have no clue, lol.

I just finished installing ( took a chance).
It installed and validated as normal.
Just a regular OEM from Newegg.
