Jan 13, 2008, 10:24 AM
hey just a quick question.
I have a 500gig hardrive and properties show that it has a capacity of only 465gig. Is it normal for xp to do this?

you didnt give many specifics but yes the formatting requires some space for the FAT (i think there is two copies) and if like the 500G external I just bought it may have some software preloaded.

Yes it's normal, I think you lose about 3G for every 40G due to partitioning and FAT tables
