I'm building a new system, Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4 Gb RAM. I understand the 4 Gb address limit and I'm fine only using 3 GB RAM but this got me thinking... why shouldn't I just install Vista 64 bit?

Can someone just spell out for me what the difference is? How do I find out if all the software I use will work? Any other compatibility issues I should know about? Is it mainly about drivers?

I dual boot between XP and Vista 64.. the only issues I have with Vista 64 are with older games.. other than that all software works fine.

Post a list of apps that you would want to use and I can let you know if I use them. You may also be able to find a list on the internet.

As for drivers, unlike XP x64, Vista 64 drivers are being released at the same time as 32 bit drivers.

To be honest there's nothing I use which I couldn't find a replacement for, if there was a problem.

All my hardware is new except for a DVD re-writer and a printer. Since I'm doing a clean install if there's a problem I guess I could just go back to Vista x32
