More Information

Does anyone have any resources regarding recovering encrypted files from a NTFS file system? Yes, I Googled and I have found some resouces but so far the complexity of te suggestions I've found make me worry that I might make the problem worse. So, my request is just to make sure I haven't missed something.

In my particular situation, my motherboard failed. I assumed that the encyrption was tied to my username & password. I've learned the hard way it was tied to the machine also and that I needed to export the cipher key to offline storage. I do have access to the disks (via a IDE > USB adapter); I just can't access the encrypted files. (yes, I do have a back-up; just not of the most up-to-date files. The motherboard failed during back-up).
