I have to thank Microsoft - sorry guys 
My Vista HP PC was crashing every now and then, but problem fixed.
Sent details back to MS and in a few seconds sound card reported as causing BOSD.
Removed SC and all's well.
Seems that CMedia's sound card XP drivers do not work in Vista and Cmedia have no or little intention to support
slightly older sound cards - no Vista drivers for them.
So i'am actually supprised how MS worked out the "mumbo jumbo" of the error report.
