Help flash bios and new hard drive?

Hello,
When installing a new hard drive in my Dell Inspiron 4000 and want to put in 350GB drive, How do I flash memory and save the old hard drive system to put it back on? I do not have the CDs that came with the laptop? I have installed 512mb kit (256mb x2) sdram pc1 144pin so dimm 512MB (2X256MB) FOR DELL
INSPIRON 4000

tricky for a laptop. What you would probably need is software to ghost your current image to your new hard drive.

1.) buy a laptop USB enclosure and connect it to the PC.
2.) boot into a ghost application like Symantec Ghost or Acronis drive image.
3.) copy all data to the new drive then swap them around.

Make sure to get the right hard drive type (IDE).
