The harddrive free space was low.I tried to compress drive to gain more space....the compression program stopped and server disconnected from stations. When I try to reboot the boot stalls at "windows is loading". Is this caused by lack of free space or corrupted files? How do I correct problem without reloading 2003 Server software?

What did you use to compress the drive?

It sounds like the drive was corrupted when the program stopped, but please provide more details on exactly what you used and did.

I would consider corruption and lack of free space to be candidates to your issue. You can run the repair utility on the win2000 disk if you have it. You might want to try booting into a 2nd OS (linux, repair...) and clearing out as much as you can to free up free space. But this may be a great opportunity to upgrade your hard drives!!!

Remove the drive, connect it to a second computer, like your laptop using a USB to IDE/Sata cable. Delete the Temp folders and any of the other files like music, pictures, etc. that can be transferred over to the other computer. Run a check disk on the drive and then re-install the drive and boot into your OS.

To PaulR08, this is a raid 1 so he would have to also rebuild the array. A linux boot disk is still my recommendation.
