Hi there guys and gals :hello:

HHHHEEEELLLLPPPP!!!!

I upgraded my PC just prior to Christmas and everythings been running sweeeet up until around Wednesday this week (26/01/08).

The problem I got was when I tried to fire up Half Life 2 I'd get a blue screen for about half a second and then the machine would just restart. So retracing my steps I done a system restore prior to installing stunt playground and tried again. Joy!

Restarted just to make sure the problem wasn't going to come back and BANG there it was again.

Downloaded and installed the latest Forceware drivers and installed no joy starting HL2 (Removed existing driver first via control panel, system).
Tried re-installing DirectX no joy starting HL2 BSOD!
Changed resolution to game resolution Joy.
Changed resolution back to 1024x768 and tried again BSOD!
Tried doing the web setup of DirectX Joy. Could even switch between Half Life 2 and Windows.

Turned my computer on this morning (26/01/08) to watch a movie BSOD!
Tried Half Life 2 BSOD!
Tried the resolution thing again BSOD! OMG!!!!
System restore Joy!
Restart to try again BSOD!
Carried out everything that I'd done on Wednesday BSOD!

HHHHEEEELLLLPPPP!!!!

I definately think this is a DirectX and or driver related problem because when I uninstall the driver (as above) I can watch movies till the cows come home!

Virus scan shows up nothing

Alright I've been tinkering and this is the script now.

Install Asus 8600GTS Driver tried HL2. BSOD
Replaced DDRAW.DLL tried HL2. BSOD
Re-Installed Motherboard Drivers. Joy.
Alt-Tab OK into XP but when switching back to HL2 BSOD.
Started HL2 again Joy.
Quit HL2.
Starting HL2 BSOD.
Tried starting HL2 again BSOD. Strikes me that this problem aint exactly repeatable or logical
Tried starting HL2 BSOD.
Tried starting HL2 BSOD.
Tried starting HL2 BSOD.
Bored now!

Thought I'd check my idle temps CPU 27 GPU 48 Room temp 26.

It's weird because it seems like when I manage to get everything going again something just comes along at the back of me and destroys all my good work.

Another weird thing automatic updates can't seem to install Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 (KB110806). Surely the two can't be related?

Might just try turning off Automatic updates retracing my steps as per this post and all being well set a restore point.

:pfff:

Anoying thing FPS viewer has appeared in top left hand corner 280FPS (is that any good!?) anybody know how to turn it off?

:bounce: Yipee good times are here again.

Question is for how long ?

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL EN8600GTS Solved for now hope this helps others who are having the same problem.

Hold on I've probably jinxed myself here I'm just going to check again. Still works. Deep Joy!
