so.. as the topic suggests. first of all, im a student, who just moved. the situation is that i live in a house with several other people. and the internet/router set up is totally messed up. the landlord has several routers connected together to provide internet for about 8-9 computers.
the problem i have is that my internet periodically stops working. its not consistant in anyway, no patterns to this gayness. sometimes it stops in the morning, sometimes at night. the internet comes back on shortly after tho, each of these pesky outtages last for about 5 minutes, but then again, it goes out about once every 5 minutes. i accessed the router configurations through 192.168.0.1, and what i have noticed is that each time i lose connection, the router isnt displaying an IP address. seems to me that the router drops the IP address on its on at times for no apparently reason, at least non that i have been able to figure out.
the whole LAN is on a PPPoE setup, which i am definately not familar with, but i have tried setting it to "Obtain an IP address automatically" but the problem remains. i have checked all the other setups like portforwarding and such, nothing seems to be out of order.
any suggestions would help. also could someone please suggest some type of internet, connection and bandwidth tester and monitor for me? i need one that can keep a log on the downtimes, which is like every 5 minutes so i can show it to the landlord. if nothing helpful comes up, i will need that at least.
PPPoE is generally used for dsl services if that is what you are using. when ur having intermittent issues, have u checked the lights on the modem to see if they look normal and if so who is the man. of the rtrs
