so about 6 months ago i bought a windows xp home edition retail (the one with the nice box)... im about to build a new pc e6550, 2gb ram, 8800 gts... my question is can i reuse that copy of windows that i bought? i already used it once when i installed it on my current computer

Yes. You may have to call the 800 number to activate the OS. The OS is used for only one system when asked.
