So I bought two of these systems for our Small business from Futureshop ( canada's version of Circuit City) with windows Vista home installed. I figured it would be a breeze Acronis the harddisk and reinstall XP2. During the reinstall I encountered the famous BSOD. After breaking my head for a couple of days I discovered that the problem lies with the controller and XP not recognizing it or something of the sort. So reading online I found a post that basically said to slipstream the Intel G33-1CH9R drivers using the F6 function during the install. So I went to the intel website, found the drivers in the "RAID/AHCI Software - IntelĀ® Matrix Storage Manager" avalible on the website, extracted them, put them all on a USB key and retried the install. Now here is where things get tricky, I
am encountering another error here:
"File Txtsetup.oem caused an unexpected error (1) at line 1747 in d:\nt\base\boot\setup" I'm back trying to figure out what to do!
Main road blocks are that Acer doesn't provide drivers for XP only Vista and their support is the worst I have ever seen. HELP PLEASE!!!
Aspire M5620
Intel Core 2 Quad
4GB DDR2 800 Mhz SDRAM
Intel G33-ICH9R
Bios Version ROI-A0
500 Gig SATA Drive
DVD RW
Integrated Intel Pro/1000 Gigabit
yup actaully i have. As an update, I have managed to slipstream the drivers, the issue now is that the system keeps rebooting.I am thinking that the drivers worked because it managed to install and copy windows and even put me through the entire configuration. However I think the drivers need to somehow be loaded in the pre windows start setup... given that I get the Windows Start up screen and then bam reboots.... any ideas on this?
Thank you for the information about the hard disk driver at post installation of Win XP. I put the required files on a floppy and at the installation of XP I pressed F6 to be able, eventually, to make XP go for the required drivers on the floppy. I had the same problem as you with the Txtsetup.oem file. To avoid that ( it was a very wild guess ) I changed the default values, in this file, to match my current hardware configuration. In my case it was:
[Disks] disk1 = "Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver", iaStor.sys, \
[Defaults] scsi = iaStor_ICH8R
Also, since I don't understand the purpose of this information, I removed the string Txtsetup.oem from the comment line Filename and the installation went smoothly. Of course I had to get all the required XP drivers for the M5620. I finally upgrade from Vista to XP. I am happy.
No thanks for Acer stinky support.
