Anyways..... i was a major issue having vista install with both HD's hooked up. So after 3 hours of trying different things i was looking threw bois and saw that it was putting both the 250 and 500 as master even after i had them set up as 250 master/ 500 slave. still i would get a message that said " windows is unable to find a system voulme that meets its criteria for installation " Well if any of you get to the part where this message happens you will notice it is detecting all your HD's ( 2 in my case ) windows trys to load them on both! ( as a raid config? ) so if you disconect the HD you are useing as a slave ( after powering down ) and reboot with the vista disk in the cd/dvd drive go threw the long prosses of entering your key code. you will notice that it now only see's 1 HD. now hit enter after selecting the HD you want to instill vista on. This should work, it did in my case!
I hope this helps someone else. i wish i found something like this on this forum when i was having this problem. so here i am posting what i found to fix it. Good luck guys and gals
Well, thanks for that tidbit of info. IDE hard drives have a master/slave jumper that must be set. I believe if the hard drive you were unplugging had the jumper set to slave, you would not have had the two hard drives show up as masters in BIOS. I use SATA hard drives. BTW. What motherboard are you using? Also, where is your DVD conncected to? Nice going with the VISTA 64 ULTIMATE MACHINE.
they are sata HD's both are seagate barracuda's the 250 is the 7200.10 and the 500 is the new 7200.11 The only jumper i saw on the back was just for the 1.5 or 3 gig interface? I am useing the fxf navidia 780i SLI I have my dvd/cd burner/drive hooked into the IDE connector.
Well in Sata drives you don’t have the slave master option, only channel number. I will suggest checking few things. Enter the Bios by pressing “del” during system post. Load Defaults, save and reset. Go to Integrated Peripherals Manu> RAID Config. Make sure that raid function enabled but disabled on each Sata, or if you not planning to use Raid on you system you can disable main Raid function (not recommended). Make sure that you can see both hard drives in bios. Next step is to set up boot sequence. Go to Advanced BIOS Features> Hard Disk Boot Priority>set the hd you want as default boot device.
thanks Arkadi! i gave up last night after they both where being shown as master in a raid config. i had raid disabled. i also have to go back and change the start up option. i still have it booting from the cd/dvd rom. im going to play with it alittle more today
