If anyone has seen my post in the home built section you'll see that I found a surprising new take on the Nvidia 8500GT by gainward. Instead of going with the default (and crap) specs they re-tooled the card and turned it into the killer low to mid range card it should have been to begin with.

For those unfamiliar with the Gainward 8500GT below are 2 links for a better look at the card.

Yes that's right an 8500GT with a GPU running at 600mhz and 256MB of GDDR3 memorey running at 1400MHz all for £60\$120 (that price includes UK vat so the US will get another 17.5% off that price) and available now in the UK.

I snapped 1 up this morning to go into my new PC and will post some benchies once all my new components arive.

This card could be a good sign of things to come from the 8500\8600 line up and ATI could be in for some tough times in the low-mid range market as well if a few more companies follow suit and offer similar 8500GT offerings.

Here's a link to my New PC, any suggestions welcomed:

Might be a good buy, I look forward to seeing the benches.

Unfortunately if it's a Gainward-only card we probably won't see them on the North American side of the pond...

My trusty GF 5900 finally retires after 4+ years of service when this puppy arrives with the rest of the stuff for my new PC...

oh and for those of you bothered by the heat of the new 2900xt you might want to consider that my current card a geforce 5900 IDLE'S at 79C and 30secs of artifact scanning in ATItool gets the temp up to a toasty 106C! 8O

It's like getting a free imersion heater with your graphics card :D
