I get popups on my vista ult sytem every few minutes whether internet explorer is open or not. I looked through the processes for anything deadly but to no avail. Any ideas? Popup blocker is on full in case your wondering. This is driving me CRAZY
EDIT: fixed it. scanned with windows defender and found a trojan which does that. Now I have a new problem though. I can't turn windows defender on. when I click to turn it on it says checking for definitions, but the bar only goes a tiny bit and then it says no new definitions avalable to download and it won't turn on. any ideas?

Try starting in safe mode and scan, tap F8 during boot-up and you will be presented with several startup options.

The f8 thing at startup doesnt seem to work, could it have anything to do with the fact that I am using a usb wireless keyboard?

There should be a free antivirus program there, try scanning your system with that, and see if it helps. The program is legit, free, free updates as well.
I solved the popups! What I am looking for is some way to turn on windows defender!
